The Ana Townhomes

The Ana Townhomes at Howard Road will consist of 20 townhomes designed to be both workforce and affordable housing options. Named after Ana, these townhomes will bring modern, transit-oriented living to the Anacostia community, a departure from the norm in neighboring areas.

This housing development is set to be established in Anacostia by Howard Road Community Partners (HRCP), a collaborative effort between two local CBE (Certified Business Enterprise) firms: H2 Design Build, led by Harvey Yancey, and ASSET Management Consulting, led by emerging developer Tessa Edison. This partnership originated during the RFP response phase in 2018, with HRCP being granted the site by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) in 2019.

Following close collaboration with both the local Council and the community, HRCP finalized the land disposition in 2022. The project team is working alongside the DC Housing Finance Agency, utilizing their Housing Investment Platform (HIP). Primary financing is provided by a local community bank and CDFI (Community Development Financial Institution), Olty First Broadway.

Each of The Ana townhomes will feature 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and single-car garages. The development, Howard Road Townhomes, will be executed in two phases, each comprising 10 townhomes. Phase I construction has been jumpstarted with a $605,000 investment from DCHFA. The housing distribution within these homes is as follows: 14 units are earmarked for residents with incomes up to 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI), three units for those earning up to 80 percent of AMI, and an additional three units for individuals with 50 percent or lower AMI.

H2DesignBuild, the developer behind Howard Road Townhomes, boasts a track record of successful projects within the HIP program. Noteworthy among these are Elvans Road Townhomes, Cynthia Townhomes, and The Douglass: A Todd A. Lee Townhome Community. The HIP program's conception was overseen by the late former executive director and CEO of DCHFA, Todd A. Lee.

The Ana will mark the fourth community to arise from the HIP program and the second to carry the designation of a Todd A. Lee Townhome Community.
